　　故事以前作《科学小飞侠Crowds》的后续剧情展开。距离“立川事件”已经过了一年，当初贝尔库·卡切赋予尔乃美家累的力量“CROWDS”在日本首相菅山的推广之下已在人类社会当中广泛普及。然而仍然存在着对此感到不满的人们，此时菅山遭到不明人士的袭击，GATCHAMAN的全新战斗就此揭开序幕。

《游戏王》动画版，首先于1998年4月4日在日本的朝日电视台播放，共有27集，于1998年10月10日完播，是真正意义上的第一部游戏王动画。主要讲述漫画前期的黑暗游戏（闇のゲーム)，直到第一次打莫良RPG为止，声优阵容超强。
