剧中第一代埃及裔美籍穆斯林Ramy（Ramy Youssef饰）在政治分歧的新泽西作灵性旅程。在这埃及社区中分别有认为生活是道德考验的一群人，以及认为生活没有后果的千禧一代。
雷蕾（张萌 饰）和罗永浩（任重 饰）是大学时代的恋人，两人携手一路走来，彼此之间的感情十分深厚。毕业后，他们初入社会，感情面临的巨大的考验。在雷蕾母亲的建议下，罗永浩决定创业，为他和雷蕾两人未来的生活奠定物质基础。然而，初来乍到的罗永浩求成心切，反而惨遭失败，与此同时，雷蕾的事业倒是经营的风生水起。 之后，心有不甘的罗永浩再度创业，没想到又一次遭遇了滑铁卢，他和雷蕾之间的距离越来越大，争吵和误会渐渐多了起来。多年的感情，难道就如此的经历不了风雨？雷蕾的和罗永浩的感情道路如此坎坷，渐渐疲惫的两人渐行渐远。
